Ursula von der Leyen revealed this Monday in an interview with "RTP" that the first tranche of European support to Portugal arrives this Tuesday, with an amount of 3 billion euros.
This € 3 billion figure, which is included in the SURE program, with a total value of € 5,9 billion for employment aid, is intended to support workers and companies and will be financed through a loan from Portugal by the European Commission.
"I have good news for Portugal, because, starting tomorrow, Portugal will receive the first tranche of the aid program that will make Portugal 3 billion available to Portugal," von der Leyen told RTP.
This first tranche is intended to mitigate the risks of unemployment in an emergency situation and will allow the financing of support measures for the protection of contracts and health at work, according to the disclosure of von der Leyen to RTP.
At the end of October, Portugal signed a loan contract at favorable costs under the European SURE employment support program and the Government estimates that about half of the estimated € 5,9 billion will be disbursed this year.
“The Minister of State and Finance signed the loan agreement under the SURE instrument - Temporary Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency, the European instrument of temporary support to mitigate the risks of unemployment in an emergency, in the total amount of € 5,9 billion, ”said João Leão's office, in a statement released this Tuesday.
