Cape Verde recorded another 28 new positive cases of covid-19, the lowest daily number in the last 35 days, and increased the cumulative total of infections since March 8.423 to 19, Health authorities reported this Monday.

The Ministry of Health and Social Security said in a statement that 290 samples were analyzed in the last 24 hours, a number that is also quite small than the average of 524 in the previous 14 days.

In a press conference to take stock of the covid-19 situation in Cape Verde, the director of the Priority Disease Prevention and Control Service, Jorge Noel Barreto, said that most of the samples analyzed refer to collections made on the 23rd and October 24th.

All new cases were diagnosed on the island of Santiago, distributed by the municipalities of Praia (21), Santa Cruz (2), Ribeira Grande, São Domingos, Santa Catarina, São Miguel and São Lourenço dos Órgãos, with one each.

In the last 24 hours, the Cape Verdean health authorities discharged 170 more people, now registering a total of 7.455 cases considered recovered, representing 88,5% of the total reported cases.

With the new data, the country started to count 8.423 positive cases accumulated since March 19, has 94 deaths, two patients transferred and currently has 872 active cases of the disease.

Of the active cases, the infectious disease specialist Jorge Barreto explained that 24 are admitted to hospitals in the country, of which two are in more serious condition at Hospital Agostinho Neto, in Praia, while the other people are in isolation at home.

The Ministry of Health spokesman also said that 16 suspected cases of the disease were registered across the country.

In the usual meeting with the press, the Cape Verdean infectious disease specialist said that health officials will now “wait carefully” for the next few days to see the achievements of the electoral campaign for Sunday's municipal elections, which for 15 days caused a lot of movement and agglomerations of people in the different counties.
