The covid-19 indicators continue to deteriorate in France, where, in the last 24 hours, 2.288 people tested positive for the new coronavirus, an unprecedented increase since May, the French General Directorate of Health (DGS) said today.
According to the balance sheet of the local DGS, France registered more than 9.330 new cases in one week (1.604 on Thursday and 1.695 the previous day), after the barrier of 1.000 new daily cases was overcome in late July.
“The indicators are deteriorating, confirming a more active circulation of the virus throughout the territory, in particular among young adults”, noted the French DGS, which called for “reinforced surveillance”.
Since Thursday, 21 new covid-19 outbreaks have appeared, bringing the total number to 787, while 288 remain active.
In the last 24 hours, the Gallic health authorities accounted for 12 more deaths, bringing the total to 30.324 deaths - 19.818 in hospital establishments and 10.506 in nursing homes and health centers.
Tuesday, the French Scientific Council, which advises the Paris Government in the fight against covid-19, warned that France "is not immune" to an uncontrolled resumption of the epidemic and urged the French to respect protection measures.
The use of a mask, mandatory in public spaces closed since July 20, is being extended to open spaces in an increasing number of cities across the country.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 715 deaths and infected more than 19,1 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.
