The prime minister's office today called political parties to a new meeting on the epidemiological situation of covid-19 in Portugal at Infarmed, in Lisbon, starting at 10:00 on Thursday.

The social partners, the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP), the National Association of Parishes (ANAFRE) and the Patriarchate of Lisbon were also summoned to the meeting, a source from António Costa's office told Lusa.

The last meeting on the epidemiological situation, which brought together the President of the Republic, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, the Prime Minister, leaders of parties with parliamentary representation, social partners and State councilors, among others, was held on the 19th from November.

The new format of the meetings consisted of a first part with technical presentations, open to the media, and a second phase of questions from politicians and employers and union leaders.

State councilors also participated in these meetings by videoconference.

Portugal has been in a state of emergency since November 09 and until December 08, a period during which there is a mandatory curfew in counties with the highest risk of contagion from the new coronavirus, which causes covid-19 disease.

By the end of the week, the President of the Republic should decree the renewal of the state of emergency, which can only happen after a favorable opinion from the Government and approval by the parliament, which should happen on Friday afternoon.

Portugal accounts for at least 4.427 deaths associated with covid-19 in 294.799 confirmed cases of infection, according to the latest bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
