Madeira assumes cost of testing on arrival at airports

The authorities are now preparing the process of normalizing air connections, with the obligation to present or perform a test to Covid-19 on arrival at Madeira and Porto Santo airports.

The Government of Madeira will assume the cost of testing Covid-19, mandatory for all passengers disembarked in the archipelago as of July, said Regional Secretary of Health, Pedro Ramos, last Friday.

“The whole project is being planned, since we assume responsibility for the costs, because Madeira is a tourism region, it is a safe region and, naturally, because it wants to remain safe and reliable, it has to transmit that same trust and security to all those who visit us ”, said the government official.

The authorities are now preparing the process of normalizing air connections, with the obligation to present or perform a test to Covid-19 on arrival at Madeira and Porto Santo airports.

"The cost of a test is 139,90 euros," said the Secretary, indicating that the Region will assume the expense and also set up a structure that implies the hiring of two diagnostic technicians and four nurses.

"What we can say, at this point, is that the way we are going to organize the response at the airport and hotel units will be in order to minimize the waiting time for the test result," he declared.
