BE defends end of lay-off in transport companies as solution to overcrowding

"The use of public transport is essential and it is not enough to say that everything is fine for people to feel it in their daily lives", said deputy of Bloco de Esquerda, Isabel Pires.

The deputy of Bloco de Esquerda, Isabel Pires, recalled the importance of using public transport, in a debate on the overcrowding of these means of transport, during a plenary session. During this intervention, the parliamentarian pointed out the end of the lay-off as one of the solutions to the problem in the transport sector.

Thus, Isabel Pires considered that “the adaptation of all frequencies, throughout the network, the replacement of coaches, buses and boats and an alternative strategy for cases of need and end of the lay-off for companies in the transport sector should be carried out ”.

“The use of public transport is fundamental and it is not enough to say that everything is fine for people to feel it in their daily lives”, said Isabel Pires, who guaranteed that it is not enough for the Government to say “that there is no overcrowding and that people stop traveling too many times without maintaining any physical distance ”. “The problem is not the three in the afternoon train that goes empty, it is the seven in the morning that goes to the pine cone”, recalled Isabel Pires.

The Bloco de Esquerda also questioned the Government about the relocation plan for people living in precarious and overcrowded housing, presented on May 29. "The days go by and the only thing that can be seen is the number of people infected".

“We have said many times that no one can be left behind, the new outbreaks are not the result of someone who has transformed the lack of definition into a kind of individual binge or contempt for the DGS councils; it results in many cases of housing and transport conditions for people who work in professions that they never had the right to confine, ”explained Isabel Pires.
