The Minister for Territorial Cohesion reiterates that it is necessary to take advantage of Beja airport, but dismisses the possibility that this air base could replace the construction of the new airport for the Lisbon region. In interview to “Antena1 and“ Jornal de Negócios ”, Ana Abrunhosa also agrees that there is a rail link to all district capitals, as provided for in the economic recovery plan prepared by António Costa e Silva.
“The country cannot have equipment like Beja airport without valuing it. I do not agree that you can replace a national airport. What we need is to have a good national airport. Therefore, Beja will never stop being regional and does not lose importance for that reason. We are talking about an extraordinary region, with extraordinary potential, in which this infrastructure is not fully utilized, as promised to the Alentejo for years ”, says the minister.
The minister also reveals, in the same interview with the radio and the economy newspaper, that the Government has increased the allocation for product and service projects to combat Covid-19 fivefold, with 637 projects corresponding to 174 million euros having been approved - that is, a sum five times higher than initially forecast.
Ana Abrunhosa also spoke about discounts on ex-SCUTs in the interior of the country, discarding putting forward a date for moving forward, after having said in parliament what measure would take effect in the third quarter of this year. "It is being finalized and will be communicated in due course", he guarantees.
