Since the beginning of the new coronavirus pandemic, when, on February 21, the first cases were detected in the country, Italy accounted for 250.566 cases of covid-19, while the provisional balance of deaths rose to 35.295.
The 463 new cases recorded from Saturday to today constitute the second highest number of infected since the beginning of June (the first was registered Friday, with 552), which confirms the upward trend, "although contained", recognized a few days ago by the Italian Higher Institute of Health (ISS).
The increase in the number of new cases occurred despite the fact that the total number of diagnostic tests was lower than normal, totaling 37.637.
The Italian deputy minister of Health, Pierpaolo Sileri, put aside the idea that the country is experiencing a “recrudescence”, stressing that these are “well contained and controlled outbreaks”.
Currently, 13.263 people are infected with the new coronavirus, with the vast majority recovering in home isolation, either with mild or asymptomatic symptoms.
Only 45 patients are in intensive care units, but two than Saturday.
The most affected region remains that of Lombardy (north), the epicenter of the pandemic in Italy and which, in the last 24 hours, has accumulated 71 of 463 new cases and one of the two deaths.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 727 deaths and infected more than 19,6 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.
