Parliament reported today that it had been notified of the existence of two deputies who tested positive for the new coronavirus, one with an inconclusive test, which will be repeated, and four others in prophylactic isolation as determined by health authorities.
Lusa today questioned the general secretary of the Assembly of the Republic, after, on Monday, the online newspaper Observador reported the existence of a deputy with covid-19, in what would have been the first confirmed case of an elected representative in parliament .
“So far, only two deputies who have tested positive for covid-19 have been reported to this office. They are well, in their respective homes, with symptoms of constipation ”, says today the office of the secretary general of parliament.
In reply to Lusa, it is added that “in addition to the said deputies, there is a deputy who is asymptomatic and had an inconclusive test, so it will have to be repeated” and “four deputies in prophylactic isolation, as determined by the health authorities , all without symptoms ”.
"All reported situations are being monitored by the Medical and Nursing Office of the Assembly of the Republic", says the same answer.
Asked if the existence of these cases will determine additional precautions in the plenary sessions - on Wednesday, the State Budget will be voted in general -, the general secretary replied that "no additional measures are foreseen".
The process of voting on the State Budget will also not change, with the vote being taken, as usual, by bench, and not by name.
For this reason, the absences of these deputies will not condition the predictable approval of the State Budget for 2021, with votes in favor of the PS, abstentions from PCP, PAN, Greens and the two unregistered deputies. They will vote against PSD, BE, CDS-PP, Chega and IL.
Since March, the Assembly of the Republic has taken exceptional measures to prevent the pandemic, such as, in a first phase, the reduction of the plenary sessions and, currently, the decrease in the number of deputies simultaneously in the Sessions Room.
The use of a mask is also mandatory for all those who circulate in parliament - except for deputies speaking, in the front row or on the platform - and, since mid-October, the temperature is still measured for all those who enter the Assembly of the Republic.
Portugal accounts for at least 2.371 deaths associated with covid-19 in 124.432 confirmed cases of infection, according to the latest bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
The covid-19 disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
