The General Council of the Pension Fund of Lawyers and Solicitors (CPAS) approved an income protection plan for lawyers, solicitors and enforcement agents who are temporarily unable to work due to illness or accident.
Personal accident and sickness insurance was developed by AIG and allows beneficiaries to benefit from a protection that guarantees them, in the situations provided, the payment equivalent to 70% of the conventional monthly remuneration chosen by them, and the premiums are assumed by the pension system.
The measure will cover, as of January 1, 2021, all lawyers, solicitors and enforcement agents with payment of contributions and without any contribution debt reported on December 31 of this year.
“This initiative will significantly expand the ability to support beneficiaries in a situation of special weakness due to temporary incapacitating illness or accident with bodily injuries, since the new protection solution guarantees the payment for six months of a daily allowance calculated according to 70 % of the conventional monthly remuneration chosen by the Beneficiary, so the higher the step chosen by the beneficiaries, the greater the amount of the daily disability allowance. This income guarantee can also be extended from six to 24 months, by agreement and co-payment by the interested party ”, explains CPAS.
According to the entity led by Carlos Pinto de Abreu, the insurance also includes, "under certain conditions", the coverage of adversities before childbirth that may cause an absolute temporary incapacity to practice the profession. valence especially important for a significant part of the universe of lawyers as a whole.
