The General Directorate of Health (DGS) admitted this Wednesday that it may come to recommend “eventual adjustments” in the holding of the Festa do Avante, which is scheduled for September. DGS has a specific team to analyze the prevention and control measures proposed by the organizing committee of Festa do Avante and ensures that the focus is on “minimizing risk” of the event, where the usual 100 thousand people are expected.
“There will certainly be a possibility that there will be a first assessment, which can be presented to the organizing committee [of the Festa do Avante] and that there will be a dialogue with this organizing committee for possible adjustments regarding the proposals that were sent (…) in order to understand what is how to minimize risk ”, said the deputy director-general of Health, Rui Portugal, at a press conference.
Rui Portugal also said that the DGS team that is analyzing the set of prevention and safety measures proposed by the organizing committee of the Festa do Avante expects to have “results soon”.
Alexandre Araújo, member of the secretariat of the PCP's central committee, announced this Tuesday that all "health safeguard measures" will be taken and that even the pandemic will not "spoil participation" in the event that marks the Party's political rentrée annually. Communist (PCP). "We are prepared for everything and we believe that everything will happen with great tranquility", he declared.
The communist leader also revealed that “no global limitation was imposed on the presence at the party” and explained that ticket sales, which started in December, are “done in a decentralized way, through the militants”. Therefore, he assumes, "it is more difficult" to know for sure how many tickets have been sold so far ". Alexandre Araújo guarantees, however, that the DGS knows “the usual capacity of the Festa do Avante”, which “approaches 100 thousand”.
Although it is prohibited to hold cultural and artistic festivals and shows until September 30, due to Covid-19, the law does not prevent the holding of “political initiative” festivals. Using this exception, the PCP maintains its intention to hold the Festa do Avante, which annually marks the return to communist political activity, but promises a “sense of responsibility” and “weighing the circumstances in which it can be carried out”.
The event is scheduled for the 4th, 5th and 6th of September, at Quinta da Atalaia, in the municipality of Seixal, and will have tight sanitary security measures. This year, the Festa do Avante will have an available area of 30 thousand square meters (ten thousand more than in the previous edition) and will have limited areas and circulation corridors.
To avoid gatherings, the doors open earlier and three stages will be set up outdoors in different areas of the party grounds. In the restaurant area, the space between tables on the terraces will be widened to increase the distance between people. Scattered throughout the premises, there will also be several points for washing hands as well as points with disinfectant gel and there will be permanent cleaning teams for the sanitary facilities.
“The PCP has already demonstrated responsibility and organizational capacity, for any circumstance and also for the circumstance of the times we live in. The struggle and the joy cannot wait ”, defends the party led by Jerónimo de Sousa.
