The Minister of Health said on Wednesday that the next contingent of extra-National Health Service (SNS) hiring will take place between the end of July and the beginning of August with the admission of 30 new public health specialists.
In an interview with “RTP”, Marta Temido stated that there are 101 public health doctors in the capital area, with teams distributed, and reiterated that, “in no way”, can one speak of “uncontrolled” contagions by the new coronavirus in the region Lisbon and Tagus Valley (LVT), which had 218 new cases since yesterday (which represents 69,6% of the national total).
According to the minister, what is happening is a difficulty in breaking transmission chains and in understanding the circumstances of contagions. “It is an especially startling situation, which does not let you be calm (…). There are indications that suggest that more densely populated areas and with people with a greater network of contacts are at greater risk, ”he explained in statements to the public channel.
The minister says that the LVT region is on a “persistent plateau”, since Portugal reached the peak of the epidemic in late March, but warned that, in this area, the curve “has never dropped as much as in other areas of the country”. Regarding the number of beds in hospitals, the Lisbon region has 6.100 beds in total, 503 for Covid-19. Of the 271 beds in intensive care units (ICU), 95 are 'reserved' for these patients - today the beds occupied were 79. “In terms of ICU, we never exceed 63% of occupancy”, guaranteed the minister.
The transmission risk of Covid-19 is currently 0,99 for the country, 0,99 in Lisbon and 1,05 in the North, according to the most recent report by the National Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge presented by Marta Feared.
Portugal currently accounts for 42.454 confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, and 1.579 fatalities. In the last 24 hours alone, three more people died and 313 new patients were registered, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS). Thus, there was a daily growth rate for Covid-19 of 0,74%.
