Foreigners responsible for 80% of the demand for houses in Comporta

International investors drive luxury real estate at Comporta. Demand is expected to increase next year with the resumption of tourism from the second quarter of 2021, estimates Engel & Völkers.

About eight out of ten investors looking for real estate opportunities in Comporta are foreigners, who take advantage of gold visas and new real estate production to find a haven in this region located about 1h15 from Lisbon.

According to the consultancy Engel & Volkers, Comporta “registers a significant volume of new hotel and resort projects, as well as the promotion of new private villas and apartments”, an opportunity that spreads “along the Alentejo coast”.

About 80% of investors looking for real estate or tourist hospitality opportunities in Comporta, where the sector premium it has registered a strong demand, originating mainly from Spain, France and Belgium and also from the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland or Turkey.

Portugal is one of the most sought after countries in Europe to invest due to favorable taxation, the residence permit linked to the investment, and the pleasant climate and high standard of living that it provides. That’s why in 2020, we saw a very strong demand for properties at Comporta ”, explains Vitor Paiva, license partner Engel & Völkers Comporta.

Vítor Paiva anticipates that with the resumption of tourism from the second quarter of next year, the number of investments will grow in the next twelve months.

The areas surrounding Comporta, such as Carvalhal, in the municipality of Grândola, and Melides will be other emerging areas.
