France / Attacks: Man wounds French Embassy guard in Saudi Arabia

Saudi security forces arrested a citizen on Thursday who attacked a French consulate guard in the city of Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, with a sharp object, leaving him with minor injuries, the official Saudi agency SPA reported.

Police in the Mecca region "detained a citizen who attacked a French consulate guard with a sharp object, [who was] slightly injured," reports SPA without further details.

"The attacker was immediately arrested by Saudi security forces after the attack and the security guard was taken to the hospital," the French embassy said in a statement, guaranteeing that the guard's life was not in danger.

"We call on our compatriots in Saudi Arabia to be on high alert," however advised the embassy.
