Germany registered 8.685 new infections with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a number well below Saturday's balance (11.176), because not all federal states report the data over the weekend.

However, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) of virology had already pointed out that on Saturday the number of new positives had skyrocketed by including several cases recorded on Thursday, due to a technical problem on the server, which led to the data being communicated late and did not enter the Friday count.

The number of new infections recorded today is double the 4.325 new cases recorded on Monday of last week.

According to updated RKI data, the total number of positive cases since the first infection registered in the country, at the end of January, is 437.866, with 10.056 deaths, 24 more than in the previous 24 hours.

About 326.100 people have recovered from the disease.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 1,1 million deaths and almost 42,7 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
