The ecological party “Os Verdes” (ENP) released this Thursday, October 29, the first changes to the State Budget (OE) for 2021 and among the highlighted areas is health, the environment, animal welfare, companies and the unemployed.

In a statement, the party explains that “after the approval in general of OE23021, the ENP presents a set of proposed amendments that will lead to the discussion, in the specialty area, giving form to its opening statement so that the concerns of the Greens can contribute for a less insufficient OE in the answers to the problems that the country lives ”.

Among the answers that ecologists advocate for Portugal, is the “replacement of appointments and schedules in primary health care units, the free distribution of social masks and the deduction from the IRS, of the value of respiratory protection masks, visors and skin disinfectant gel, being considered as health expenses ”.

In the environmental aspect, the ENP intends to carry out a strategic evaluation for “better options at the airport level” and the elaboration of a national railway plan. In this area, ecologists also call for “strengthening human resources for the conservation of nature and biodiversity: with 25 operational assistants, 25 senior technicians, 30 nature watchers”, but also the creation of an “asbestos removal program” .

In the OE 2021, Os Verdes believes in the “creation of a treasury fund for micro and small companies, in strengthening support for family farming, in the right of unemployed people to a free social pass and in supporting the relocation of teachers”. In the changes to the ENP, animals are not left behind and as such, “support for sterilization in zoophilic associations” is requested.

On October 28, OE 2021 was approved in general with push from the ENP that abstained together with the PAN and PCP. Despite not having voted against the Budget, ecologist deputy José Luís Ferreira insisted that the Government's proposal "is far from responding to the problems that persist in the country and that the Portuguese continue to feel".

“This abstention and the opening stance now manifested by the Greens, has a very clear purpose, to give the PS one more opportunity to also assume an opening stance towards other concerns of the Greens, which were more than identified during this discussion” , stressed José Luís Ferreira.
