The number of covid-19 cases in India has already surpassed 600 since the start of the pandemic, after the country recorded 19.148 infections in the last 24 hours, officials announced today.
The new official count is 604.641 cases, with 100 registered in the last four days alone.
The Indian Minister of Health also indicated that the new coronavirus has killed 17.834 people in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
The states of the cities of Bombay and New Delhi continue to be among the hardest hit.
Despite the increase in the number of infections, Goa, a popular holiday destination, decided today to open up to tourism, with the Government of the former Portuguese colony allowing the reopening of 250 hotels, after more than three months of confinement. Tourists will need to present negative certificates of the disease or be tested on arrival.
To date, Goa, one of the least affected states, has recorded 1.387 positive cases and four deaths.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 512 deaths and infected more than 10,56 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the France-Presse news agency (AFP).
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
