The Madrid government announced this Thursday that it will close the perimeter of the region for the next two weekends, a decision that goes against the criteria of most regions, which are adopting a longer period, as indicated in the decree of state of emergency proposed by the Government of Spain, according to the news agency “EFE”.
The information was revealed by the president of the autonomous region of Madrid, the conservative Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who asked the central government for a new dialogue in order to make the opening and closing of the autonomous communities more flexible on “essential” days. In a letter sent to the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, Isabel Ayuso asked, that the activity of the city of Madrid be closed less than seven days, which is the time required by the decree of the state of emergency.
Despite the request, the first vice-president of the Government, Carmen Calvo, warned this Thursday that the Executive would not change the decree, which includes the possibility that regional governments, which have competences in the area of Health, decree the closure of the perimeter of their territories for at least a week to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the Ministry of Health, Madrid is one of the regions with the highest incidence of the pandemic, with more than 300 reported cases, having added 2.152 more in the last 24 hours. Its intensive care units occupy 38,9% of patients with covid-19.
On Wednesday, October 28, the President of France, Emannuel Macron he said that the country would return to confinement on a national scale, although less restricted than in March, with the aim of mitigating the spread of the covid-19 pandemic. "If nothing is done, there will be at least 400 additional deaths" within a few months in France, "said Macron.
