Luís Marques Mendes supports the initiative presented by Bloco de Esquerda to make public the contractual documents on the sale of Novo Banco to the North American fund, Lone Star.
"I think the idea of BE to publicly disclose the contract makes perfect sense", said the political commentator in his space of analysis, this evening, at SIC.
“There are at least four contracts, four contractual documents involving the State, the European Union, the Lone Star and the Resolution Fund, and if it were possible, they should all be made public. [Because] when there is public money, it must be made public. There are four contracts and there is at least one that is more important than the purchase and sale contract, ”said Marques Mendes.
The commentator also addressed the parliamentary debate on the capital injection of 850 million that the State recently made, as a loan, to Novo Banco, through the Resolution Fund.
For the political commentator, last week's parliamentary debate on this capital injection in the financial institution that was born out of the Banco Espírito Santo resolution was an “exercise of hypocrisy and demagogy”, both from the PSD and the PS.
"Rui Rio said he was very concerned about the capital injection, but didn't the PSD have to do with all this for many years?" Asked Marques Mendes, rhetorically.
The same criticism was directed at the Prime Minister, António Costa. Luís Marques Mendes accused the Prime Minister of implying “that he knew nothing about that candid air that characterizes him”. "But he knew everything," said the commentator.
“Who did the final sale negotiation? It was this government. Who approved the final version of the contract? It was this Government, ”reinforced Marques Mendes.
And, he concluded: “and they did not know, both, PS and PSD, that there was a 3,9 billion euro pillow for the buyer”.
