Mediapro decided to invest in Portuguese eSports, through Medialuso - a specialized group company that will be in charge of audiovisual production for all programs, and the League of Professional Videogames (LVP), which will be the entity responsible for the sports management of competitions, informs the portal “Stage 23”.
The Mediapro group will be in charge of the production of eLiga Portugal - official Fifa 21 competition, organized by Liga Portugal under the supervision of Electronic Arts (EA), the company that produces the video game. ELiga Portugal has the participation of 17 of the 18 teams that are part of the first Portuguese football division (Liga NOS).
The competition will be broadcast entirely on the Twitch platform and the Sport TV streaming platform. The eliga Portugal, which is already in its third edition, takes place between the months of November and April 2021, consisting of two seasons and a grand final where a prize of 50 thousand euros will be at stake and access to the tiebreak round of European phase of the FIFA Global Series (FIFA 21 world championship).
Jordi Soler, CEO of LVP, stresses that “for over ten years we have been organizing eSports competitions around the world and it is an honor for us to be able to export our successful model to Portugal. We are sure that it will become a benchmark competition between clubs and fans ”.
In turn, Tiago Madureira, CEO of Liga Portugal, states that “the commitment of the league and our clubs in the territory of eSports is accompanying the global growth that this sector has been experiencing, understanding the inherent importance of presence in this territory as a vehicle for communication with a young audience and that in many cases they have their main point of contact with sport through eSports ”.
LVP is one of the largest operators of video game competitions worldwide and has offices in Barcelona, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Bogotá and Mexico, from where it operates the main national competitions in Spain and Latin America, including Orange Super League and Master League Flow, both from League of Legends.
