The Government considers that in Monday's meetings with the Left Bloc, PCP and PAN it sought to approach the main demands of these political forces to make the State Budget proposal for 2021 viable.
The executive source told Lusa agency today that, in meetings with the PAN, PCP and Bloco, which had the presence of the Prime Minister, António Costa, the Government sought to respond "with approximations" to the matters identified as "insufficient" by these parties since the delivery of the 2021 State Budget proposal to the Assembly of the Republic, on the 12th.
In the meeting with the PCP, in particular, the Government says that "it sought to present guarantees in relation to the negotiation phase of the Budget in the specialty" and believes that "progress was made in several areas, namely in the social and public administration areas".
“At the working meeting with the Bloco de Esquerda, the Government put forward the proposal to ensure that whoever loses unemployment benefits has access to the new social benefit regardless of the condition of resources. The Government also presented a timetable for hiring more than 4200 health professionals, ”a source from the socialist executive told the Lusa agency.
With regard to the PAN, as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the parliamentary leader of this political force, Inês Sousa Real, the Government expressed its willingness to “double the budget” for official animal collection centers, campaigns sterilization and public veterinary hospitals, from five to 10 million euros, as well as in terms of implementing the safe university program and in environmental matters.
"In the case of PAN, in the coming days, there will be a process of exchanging documentation in relation to the commitments made on Tuesday," said a member of the Government.
In this context, the same member of the executive told the Lusa agency that the Government will “wait for Bloco de Esquerda, PCP and PAN” to “evaluate” the proposals presented by the executive in the next few days, that is, before the beginning of the debate in generality of the State Budget for 2021.
“The main objectives of the State Budget proposal are to combat the covid-19 pandemic, to protect family income and jobs. We think that these dimensions of the budget proposals will be reinforced ”, he added.
