Solicitors will be able to choose pension scheme

CPAS may lose the approximately five thousand registrants provided by solicitors and enforcement agents, says the Order of Solicitors and Enforcement Agents.

The extraordinary General Assembly (AG) of the Order of Solicitors and Enforcement Agents (OSAE) approved the possibility for associates to be able to choose the contribution scheme between the Caixa de Previdência dos Advogados e Solicitores (CPAS) - currently on an exclusive basis - and Social Security.

The AG gave a green light, with 708 votes in favor, seven against and 36 abstentions, to a proposal presented by a group of associates who want to bring to the Assembly of the Republic the amendment to the OSAE Statute to change the rule that requires registration at the Pension Fund of Lawyers and Solicitors (CPAS).

At issue is the amendment to article 5 of this Order's statute to give the beneficiary the choice of the social security system he prefers to have between Social Security or CPAS.

“In the case of new members, it will be at the time of registration, for members already registered, the deadline is one year to change, if that is the choice. In view of this change, Caixa de Previdência may lose the approximately XNUMX enrolled insured by solicitors and enforcement agents ”, explains the entity, in a statement sent this Friday to the newsrooms.

OSAE explains that the debate on this topic is not new, but it intensified during the confinement - since the CPAS will have refused to support beneficiaries for not paying for Social Security - and culminated, the day before, with the approval of the proposal at the GA held this Wednesday in the city of Coimbra.
