The UK recorded 6.634 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, a new daily record, and 40 deaths due to covid-19, the British Ministry of Health reported today.
As of Tuesday, 6.178 new infections and 37 deaths had been reported.
The cumulative total since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic in the UK today rose to 416.363 confirmed contagion cases and 41.902 deaths within 28 days after a positive test.
The new daily record, higher than that of 6.201, registered on May 01, the day in which 739 deaths were recorded, is also the result of more tests being carried out in the United Kingdom, but the rate of positivity is also higher.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 978.448 deaths and almost 32 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
