The Government will meet in an extraordinary Council of Ministers this Monday, RTP reported and confirmed Jornal Económico.
According to RTP, further containment measures may be decided, with the Government being able to decide this Monday to prohibit the sale of drinks to the wicket. According to a source from the Government to Lusa, another measure under evaluation will be the possibility of opening leisure centers for children up to 12 years old.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa admitted this Sunday to support the Government if it is necessary to proceed with more restrictive measures of the State of Emergency. Leaving a visit to the Hospital de Santa Maria as part of the campaign for the presidential candidates, he stated that he did not want to speak as President of the Republic, but ended up admitting the scenario, “more if not for a political signal to the Portuguese”.
“We have to look week by week and if we need to rethink measures, the Government will naturally have the support of the President of the Republic for this reweighting. More than a political signal to the Portuguese, ”he said in statements to journalists, transmitted by RTP3, this Sunday at the exit of Santa Maria.
Also this Sunday, the Minister of Internal Administration assured that the Government is in line with the statement of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who this Sunday did not rule out the need for tighter restriction measures. Eduardo Cabrita stressed that the Executive is making a “permanent reassessment” of the situation.
“What we do is a permanent reassessment both of the evolution of the pandemic and of the measures that are necessary to safeguard its adequacy and proportionality. I think that was the meaning of the statement by the President of the Republic, with which we are totally in agreement ”, said the government official this Sunday in statements to journalists, transmitted by RTP3, after leaving a polling station in Barreiro.
