Mercadona enters a new district in Portugal by opening a supermarket in Viana do Castelo

The Spanish chain of Spanish distribution Mercadona entered today, December 2nd, in a new district in Portugal, when opening another supermarket to our country, in the city of Viana do Castelo.

This became the 19th Mercadona store to operate in Portugal.

The opening of this supermarket was attended by José Maria Costa, Mayor of Viana do Castelo; José Ramos, president of the Union of Parishes of Viana do Castelo (Santa Maria Maior and Monserrate) and Meadela; and Manuel Cunha Júnior, president of the Viana do Castelo Business Association.

"This store has generated 60 new jobs, with an open-ended contract since the first day, and has a sales area of ​​1.900 square meters and 120 parking spaces", assures a statement from Mercadona, adding that the expansion plan of the this year also includes the opening of another store until the end of 2020: Campanhã, in Porto, on December 16th.

The new store is installed at Estrada da Abelheira, no. 1327, in the town of Abelheira.

Featuring the butcher, delicatessen, fishmonger, pastry and bakery, perfumery, fruit and vegetable sections and ready to eat, “this space was designed according to the 'Efficient Store Model' that Mercadona is implementing throughout its chain and that represents energy savings of more than 40% compared to a traditional store ”.

"The company, as it has been doing since the beginning of this pandemic situation, will continue to apply all security measures within its stores in order to guarantee the health and safety of its employees and customers", guarantees the aforementioned statement .

Mercadona officials explain to me that, currently, the opening hours of the Viana do Castelo supermarket are from 9:00 am to 21:30 pm, from Monday to Sunday.

"The timetable is subject to temporary restrictions that may eventually be enacted by the competent authorities, and which will be informed on the company's own channels", warns Mercadona.
